Regina Pats News Release
First Period
Almost two-minutes into the first period, Hewitt accidentally played the puck outside of the trapezoid and was called for delay of game. Hewitt's penalty was served by Patrick D'Amico. The Pats penalty kill unit blocked majority of the shots directed at the net. D'Amico exited the box with no change to the score. Pats forward Dyson Stevenson gave the visitors the man-advantage for the second time in the period. Stevenson's minor for interference came at 11:09. Warriors Justin Kirsch unloaded a shot from the point and registered the first goal of the game on the powerplay. Kirsch's goal was assisted by Travis Brown and Sam Fioretti. With 2:18 left in the opening frame, Warriors Bryson Gore got around the Pats defender and put the visitors ahead by two goals. The Warriors led 2-0 after the first frame.
Second Period
Pats defender Kyle Burroughs laid a monstrous hit on the Warriors Justin Uhrich in the second period. Burroughs' hit resulted in a toe-to-toe scrap between Uhrich and himself. Burroughs swung a huge right hook that knocked Uhrich's helmet off. The fight ensued at 13:38 of the second frame. Forty-three seconds after the fight, Pats Colby Williams was called for goaltender interference. During the Warriors powerplay, Hewitt made spectacular saves that kept the game within two goals for the Blue and White. In the final minutes of the second period, Braden Christoffer battled hard on the forecheck and got the Blue and White on the board at 4:13. Christoffer's fourth goal of the season was unassisted. The crowd at the Dome erupted with 1:17 left in the period. Stephen Hak's shot from the point deflected off a Warriors defenseman, and went into the back of the net. Hak's third goal of the year was assisted by Williams and Stephenson. The Pats clawed back at the end of the second, and tied the game up 2-2.
Third Period
Both teams played seven-minutes of continuous hockey to start the third period. Before the first whistle was blown, there were great scoring chances at both ends of the ice. Trent Ouellette was called for checking from behind at 11:46 of the third. Hewitt remained sharp on the penalty kill and stopped every shot he faced. In total, Hewitt made nine saves by the midway point of the final frame. The tempo of the game picked up with five-minutes left in the third. The visitors pressured the Pats with 40-seconds left in the game, but solid goaltending from Hewitt prevented a go-ahead goal. Regulation ended with the teams tied 2-2. The Warriors led in shots 35-31.
Overtime
Warriors Morgan Reilly was called for hooking 33-seconds into the overtime period. While on the powerplay, the Pats generated four shots on goal. The score remained tied after Reilly served his minor. No team found the back of the net in overtime. A shootout was needed to determine the winner.
Shootout
Warriors Jordan Messier scored the lone goal in the shoot as the Warriors defeated the Pats 3-2.
