Manitoba Moose News Release

Peter Sarno and Lee Goren each had a goal and an assist as the Manitoba Moose defeated the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks 4-2 Friday night.

The game started much like Thursday night's clash with Cleveland as the Moose received an early penalty. Seven seconds into the game, Referee Dean Morton fingered Ryan Kesler for hooking.

The Moose were able to kill off the minor as well as one other to Brandon Nolan midway through the period before scoring their first goal of the night.

Jason King fed Peter Sarno on a beautiful cross-ice pass from the end boards. Sarno then took the puck and wired it past Bryzgalov to make it 1-0 Moose.

After one period, the Moose were up 1-0 on the Ducks and the shots were even at 8-8. Cincinnati had held an 8-4 edge in shots before the Moose made a late surge.

In the second, Manitoba made it 2-0 when Alexandre Burrows sprinted to the loose puck and backhanded it past Bryzgalov.

It looked as if the Moose would be carrying that two-goal lead into the intermission but the Ducks picked up the tempo. With Kevin Bieksa and Jason King in the box and the Moose subsequently down two men, Stanislav Chistov scored to bring the hosts back to within a goal.

After the second, Manitoba was clinging to a 2-1 lead.

In the third, the Moose had a two-man advantage of their own with Tomas Malec and Mark Popovic in the box. Lee Goren converted on the man-power advantage to make it 3-1 Moose.

The Ducks didn't roll over, however. With 2:27 left on the clock Michael Holmqvist's goal brought Cincinnati back to within a goal but that was as close as they would get.

Jeff Heerema added an empty netter to ice the outcome.
