Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Matt Moore set a new Triple-A career high with 13 strikeouts over eight innings in a 4-0 win over the Gwinnett Braves on Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The 13 strikeouts by Moore tied the record for the most in a single game by a Triple-A Durham pitcher. He is now tied with Jason Hammel (August 16, 2006) and Wade Davis (June 3, 2009), who both accomplished the feat against Toledo.
Moore (1-0) earned the first win of his Triple-A career and did not allow a runner past first base after the first inning when he walked Tyler Pastornicky, and he stole second. Dane De La Rosa worked around a lead off single in the ninth inning to preserve the Bulls seventh shutout of the season.
The Bulls offense got things going in the third inning when John Matulia belted his fourth home run of the season off of Mike Minor. Matulia now has ten home runs between Durham and Double-A Montgomery, which is a new career high. Reid Brignac singled and Ray Olmedo hit a ground-ruled double to put two runners on with two outs in the inning. Felipe Lopez then reached on an error that allowed Brignace and Olmedo to score giving the Bulls a 3-0 lead.
Leslie Anderson would add his 13th home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the Bulls up 4-0. The home run by Anderson ties him with Russ Canzler for the most by a Bulls player this season. The win for the Bulls was their 5,998 as a franchise inching them one win closer to 6,000. Mike Minor (3-5) was the hard luck loser for the Braves going seven innings and allowing just five hits and four runs, only two of which were earned.
Durham will continue their four-game series with Gwinnett on Thursday July 28 at 7:05 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Bulls will send Alex Torres (7-6) to the mound against the Braves Todd Redmond (7-8). The game can be heard on 620 the Buzz, and tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com.
