IronPigs Take Game One from PawSox

Nate Spears lead off the top of the tenth inning in Allentown with a titanic home run, giving the PawSox a 7-6 lead. It wasn't enough, as the Pigs rallied for a pair in the bottom of the inning to win 8-7.

The PawSox and Pigs began play separated by two games at the top of the I.L. North Division. Pawtucket got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the first two innings. In the first, Hector Luna singled in Daniel Nava to make it 1-0. In the second, Ryan Lavarnway belted the first of his two, two run doubles. Up 3-0, the Pigs scored 4 runs in the fourth with former PawSox All Star Brandon Moss delivering a two run single. Lehigh had a 5-3 lead going into the seventh. The Sox scored three runs, two coming on Lavarnways' second double. Daniel Nava, who had four hits also had an RBI. The Pigs tied it in the eighth when Pete Orr was hit by a Scott Atchison pitch. Orr scored on a passed ball charged to Luis Exposito.

In the tenth, Nate Spears blasted a leadoff homer that gave the Sox a 7-6 lead. Unfortunately in the bottom of the tenth, Pete Orr doubled and scored the tying run against Jason Rice. Orr came home on a Brandon Moss single. With pinch runner Kevin Frandsen at second base, Josh Barfield singled. Frandsen sped home and slid under the tag applied Luis Exposito. It was a perfect throw from leftfielder Daniel Nava. The PawSox are now 5-7 in extra innings and 3 games out of first place.

The series continues on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Kyle Weiland (8-6, 3.00) faces Major League rehabber Roy Oswalt (NR).
