Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, California - Monterey Bay F.C. (1-1-1, 4 points) returns home to take on San Antonio FC (2-0-1, 7 points) in a Western Conference showdown that will debut the Club's new, soon-to-be fully unveiled jersey, the Light Fighter kit. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT on Saturday at Cardinale Stadium in Week 4 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season, presented by Coastal Paving & Excavating. Saturday's match will be broadcast locally via KION on FOX 35 (46.2 over the air, 35 Dish, 47 DirecTV and 3/702 HD Xfinity), with live streaming available on ESPN+.
The Crisp and Kelp and San Antonio FC last met in Seaside on June 11, 2022 in a 3-2 defeat at Cardinale Stadium that saw own goals for each side in a back and forth match. Christian Volesky scored his first-ever goal for the Union in the 18th minute of the match, but a late red card shown to Hugh Roberts II and a game-winning goal by Santiago Patiño saw the visitors take the full three points. San Antonio FC ultimately took the 2022 season series two wins to none, giving them the early advantage in all-time head-to-head between the sides.
On Saturday, Monterey Bay F.C. will look to earn its first win over the Texas side and regain its positioning at the top of the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the defending USL Championship Title-Winners come into Monterey County with hopes of winning a third consecutive match against the Union, including a second straight win at Cardinale Stadium. "They won the championship last year so they are going to come out strong," said Monterey Bay F.C. midfielder Walmer Martínez. "We've played against them twice now and had unlucky results, one on the road early in the season last year and then in a tight match at home later in the year. This one is going to be a good matchup. We're excited for them to come here again this weekend. We're going to battle and play our hearts out. This is our home, we defend our home."
