Republic FC's Wendy Kosterman Honored as a USL Changemaker

Earlier this week, Women in Soccer announced the winners for the 2022 USL Changemakers Awards, recognizing women across the league for their incredible impact on soccer culture and the industry as a whole. Of the hundreds of nominees, Republic FC's Merchandise Manager Wendy Kosterman was selected as the winner of the Innovator Award, celebrating her success in bringing a fresh perspective to what soccer culture can look like through both socially-impactful and revenue-generating operations.

Wendy is responsible for overseeing all retail operations for the club - but her impact goes far beyond that. Wendy has been with Republic FC since its inaugural 2014 season, and has consistently demonstrated a high level of innovation and adaptability in her approach to creating a retail environment that elevates Republic FC's brand and identity in the Sacramento Region and beyond, while also providing opportunities for the club's merchandise to have an impact in the community.

From the dozens of unique items in the Team Store, to the kits that the team wears on the field, Wendy touches nearly every department every day - and by interacting with customers and fans every day, she is one of the club's biggest ambassadors, creating memorable experiences for Republic FC fans around the world.

"When I started this journey nine years ago I had no background in sports, no background in retail, so I am living proof, that regardless of gender, age, or where you are in your life, have the courage to take on new challenges, try new things, and learn new skills," said Kosterman. "I am honored to receive this award. For someone who has never played a sport, I'm so excited to say I'm officially a Woman in Soccer!"

Wendy also often works with Republic FC's Community Investment team to identify local non-profits that align with the club's mission and core values to receive a portion of merchandise proceeds and extend the club's impact on the community it serves. This includes Breast Health Awareness, family social services, LGBTQ+ inclusivity and equality, and Childhood Cancer Awareness.

"We are honored to have Wendy as a part of our team," said Republic FC Executive Vice President of Business Operations Ashley Horsley. "The value that she brings to our community is immeasurable and we are beyond grateful for the heart, personality, and work ethic that she has brought to the the Indomitable Club every day for the past 10 years."
