Records: Oakland Roots SC (0-2-0, 0 points); Monterey Bay F.C. (0-2-0, 0 points)
Previous Matchups: In Monterey Bay's second match of its inaugural campaign, a goal from Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC forward Elvis Amoh in the 40th minute proved to be the difference. In the 65th minute, Monterey Bay F.C. midfielder Mobi Fehr was whistled for his second yellow card foul, forcing him off the pitch and leaving the visitors with 10 men for the final 25 minutes in a 1-0 loss.
Oakland Roots SC traveled to Memphis, Tennessee in Week 2 and entered the halftime break down 2-0 after goals by Memphis' Aaron Molloy and Patrick Seagrist. Despite a late goal for Oakland forward Dariusz Formella to make things interesting, Oakland fell short of the full comeback and lost the match 2-1.
Connections: Monterey Bay F.C. defender Kai Greene spent the 2021 season in Oakland with Roots SC for its inaugural campaign in the USL Championship. Greene started 24 of his 28 total appearances and scored one goal, while helping the club reach the conference semifinals before making the move to Monterey Bay this offseason.
Notes: Fehr will miss the match after receiving a second yellow in last week's contest against Colorado Springs. Monterey Bay F.C. and Oakland Roots SC are each looking for its first win of the year, with Monterey Bay also searching for its first-ever club win, as both clubs remain without points through the first two weeks of the 2022 USL Championship campaign. Monterey Bay F.C. is 0-2-0 all-time on the road, while Oakland Roots SC is 7-5-4 all-time as hosts.
