
RGV FC Falls to LA Galaxy II

LOS ANGELES, California - Rio Grande Valley FC (1-2-0) dropped the road match against LA Galaxy ll (1-2-0) at Dignity Health Sports Park on Wednesday night, 0-1. This marks the second consecutive loss for Rio Grande on the road.
Rio Grande Valley saw its clearest chance at goal in the first half as Ricky Ruiz struck a direct shot from outside the box to the bottom right post in the 25th minute. The ball deflected off the post, past a diving Eric Lopez and went clear of danger.
LA Galaxy ll tested Colin Miller at the late stages of the first half on a counterattack play in the 43rd minute. Miller saved the shot aimed at the right side of the goal sending it to a corner kick.
In the ensuing corner kick try at the 44th minute, RGV FC captain Jesus Vazquez was called for a hand ball inside the box, resulting in a penalty. On the penalty try, Preston Judd sent a low shot to the right side of the goal where a diving Colin Miller made the save. On the ensuing play from the deflection, Taylor Davila controlled the ball and scored a goal from the right side of the 18-yard box in the 45th minute off his right foot, 0-1.
As RGV applied pressure in the attacking third in search of an equalizer, Emilio Ycaza created a danger play inside the box at the 67th minute, taking a shot on target near the 6-yard box marker. Eric Lopez challenged the shot and closed in to make the stop.
The Toros ended the match with two shots on target and maintained 57% possession throughout the game. Emilio Ycaza and Dylan Borczak had one shot on target each while Frank Nodarse tallied three shots, none on goal. On the distribution end Jesus Vázquez attempted 75 passes, the highest total for a Rio Grande Valley player in the USL Championship this season.
