PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC has signed midfielder Luis Argudo to a one-year deal with a team option for 2023, the team announced this afternoon.
Argudo, 26, joins the Hounds after stints in MLS and most recently playing overseas in Sweden for Norrby. He agreed to terms with the Hounds after a successful trial with the team during preseason, which included one goal scored, and he is now eligible for selection after his international transfer was cleared by the U.S. Soccer Federation.
"Luis is a technically sound midfielder who is calm in possession and can deliver a quality pass that creates goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates. He is an important addition to an already strong midfield, and we are excited to have him for the 2022 USL Championship season," head coach Bob Lilley said.
A native of Queens, N.Y., Argudo began his college career at Elon before transferring to Wake Forest for his final two seasons. After receiving a late invitation to the 2018 MLS Combine, he was selected in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew and signed by the club.
He made 39 appearances and scored once during two seasons with the Crew, which also included a brief 2019 loan stint with Hartford Athletic in which he suited up once against the Hounds.
Argudo was then selected by Inter Miami as the seventh pick in the MLS Expansion Draft, but he only made one appearance for the club in 2020. He then spent 2021 with Norrby, where he scored three goals in 17 appearances for the Swedish club.
The Hounds' next match is this Saturday, when they will go on the road to face USL Championship newcomers Detroit City FC at 4 p.m.
