Montclair State Alum Jeff Gogal Named Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week

Little Falls, N.J. - The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has selected New Jersey Jackals left-handed pitcher Jeff Gogal as the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 5.

In three relief appearances this past week, Gogal hurled 3 2/3 hitless shutout innings and notched two saves while striking out six batters. The 28-year-old has been part of a New Jersey bullpen that has helped the Jackals to a 4-1 record during their first homestand of the season.

Gogal, a former 12th round pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2004 draft, reached the Triple-A level for the first time in his career last season when he turned in three scoreless relief appearances for the New Orleans Zephyrs. Prior to earning the call to New Orleans, Gogal dominated the Advanced-A Florida State league in 2010, going 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA in 22 contests. He has spent parts of the past four seasons at the Double-A level, earning Southern League Mid-Season All-Star accolades in 2008 with the Carolina Mudcats when he appeared in a career-high 47 games and went 6-2 with a 2.93 ERA. Over six professional seasons entering 2011, Gogal is 17-15 with a 3.74 ERA and 286 strikeouts in 286.1 innings.

Gogal was a four-year member of the Montclair State starting rotation from 2001-2004, compiling a 27-6 record during his college career and helping lead the Red Hawks to an appearance in the Division III World Series as a freshman. Prior to pitching at Montclair State, he starred at nearby Kearny High School.

The Jackals conclude their four-game series against the expansion Rockland Boulders tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium.
