Monsters hold Cyclones bats silent

The Cyclones lost to the Lake Monsters 4-1 on Sunday night, after rain delayed the game's start by approximately an hour. Vermont's win gives Brooklyn its first home series loss of the season, but the Cyclones (26-12) remain five games ahead of Staten Island for first place in the McNamara Division.

Brooklyn starter Dylan Owen worked 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, while striking out six batters. Grady Hinchman kept the game within reach in relief, but the Brooklyn offense could not muster a comeback. Vermont starter Colton Willems and reliever Alberto Tavarez held the Cyclones in check, only allowing four hits on the night.

Brooklyn mounted its biggest rally in the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but after a sacrifice fly by Chris Fournier made it 4-1, Jefferies Tatford was retired to end the game.

The Cyclones hit the road Monday for six games but return home to KeySpan Park on Sunday, August 5 to face the Aberdeen IronBirds at 5pm. The first 2,500 fans that night will receive Marty Markowitz bobbleheads.
