Crosscutters Fall to Scrappers, 7-5

July 29, 2007 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters fell to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 7-5 in 11 innings Sunday evening. Derrick Mitchell hit his second home run of the season to stake the Cutters to a three-run lead in the second inning.

The Scrappers posted their first two runs in the fourth inning off Crosscutters starter Chance Chapman when Todd Martin singled in Cristo Arnal, and Dustin Realini brought Martin in two batters later. Chapman only allowed those two runs on five hits over six innings while walking two and striking out a pair. Williamsport added a run in the seventh when Michael Taylor scored on a single by Dominic Brown to advance the Crosscutters lead to 4-2. Mahoning Valley got two runners on in the eight off of Cutters reliever Paige Dumont, who was subsequently replaced by Matt German.

German gave up a three-run home run to Martin to give the Scrappers a 5-4 lead. The Crosscutters were down, but not out. With two gone in the bottom of the ninth, Brown hit his first home run of the season over the left field wall to tie the contest. Scrappers pinch hitter Nick Petrucci brought in a pair with a home run in the top of the 11th inning off of Yen Feng Lin, who took the loss for Williamsport. The Cutters went down in order in the bottom half of the frame and are now 1-4 in extra innings.

The Crosscutters open a six-game road trip Monday against the Muckdogs in Batavia at 7:05 p.m.
