November 11, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
MILWAUKEE - In the final game of a week-long, four-game road trip, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday at Milwaukee's BMO Harris Bradley Center by a final score of 6-3. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 6-3-0-2 overall this season and with a .636 points percentage, dropped to third place alone in the AHL's Central Division standings.
The Admirals grabbed control of Wednesday's game with three unanswered even-strength goals in the opening period, from Pontus Aberg at 6:14, Trevor Murphy at 13:29 and Tyler Aronson 17:17, respectively. After a goaltending change saw the Monsters install Joonas Korpisalo for starter Anton Forsberg at the start of the second period, Milwaukee piled on with their first shot of the period, a Max Gortz power-play goal just 38 seconds into the frame that made it 4-1 Admirals.
The Monsters scratched across their first score of the game at 7:46 of the middle frame when Michael Chaput tapped home his team-leading fifth of the season at even-strength, thanks to Alex Broadhurst's lone assist. Then, less than two minutes later, Markus Hannikainen spirited his third goal of the season off an Admirals defenseman and between the legs of Milwaukee goaltender Jusse Saros at 8:59 to make it 4-3, with T.J. Tynan and Dean Kukan collecting assists on the play.
In the third, the Admirals pushed their advantage to 6-2 with consecutive scores from Aberg and Max Reinhart at 7:32 and 13:10 before Lake Erie's Sonny Milano netted his second marker of the season at 13:48 on the power-play, courtesy of a crisp setup from Hannikainen and Tynan, to establish the Monsters' final margin of defeat at 6-3.
Forsberg made eight first period saves before Korpisalo took over in net for the Monsters, delivered a 22-save performance and was credited with the defeat for Lake Erie. Saros claimed victory between the pipes for the Admirals by virtue of a 23-save performance.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Friday clash vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins with live coverage from The Q underway at 7:00 pm on ESPN 850 WKNR and the Monsters Hockey Network.
