Cleveland Monsters News Release
Allowing just 14 shots on goal, the Lake Erie Monsters (16-13-0-3) topped the Milwaukee Admirals (16-9-5-1) 4-2 before a crowd of 8,136 Friday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Andrew Agozzino, Matt Hunwick, Mark Olver, and Brett Clark scored for the Monsters. Joey Hishon and Markus Lauridsen registered two assists each, while Calvin Pickard picked up his ninth victory in net. The Monsters and Admirals meet again Saturday at 7:00 PM in Downtown Cleveland.
Agozzino got the scoring started immediately with his eighth goal of the season when he took a pass from Markus Lauridsen and ripped a shot past Milwaukee goalie Scott Darling at 1:48 of the opening period. J.T. Wyman also assisted on the goal. Agozzino now has goals in three straight games.
Matt Hunwick extended the early Monsters lead to 2-0 at 7:21 of the first period when he strolled up the left wing, around the net, and sent a puck toward the front that bounced into the goal for his sixth tally of the season, assisted by Joey Hishon and Lauridsen.
Milwaukee would score, cutting the Monsters lead to 2-1, when Bryan Rodney deflected a Joonas Jarvinen point shot at 14:18 of the first period.
Mark Olver answered for the Monsters at 7:47 of the second period. Hishon spotted Olver in the left circle and sent a pass across from the right boards, and Olver quickly snapped a shot past Darling to give the Monsters a 3-1 lead on the power play. The goal was Olver's eighth of the season, and was assisted by Hishon and Hunwick.
Milwaukee scored another late-period goal, pulling to within 3-2, when Mike Liambas received a Mathieu Tousignant pass in front of the Monsters net and scored at the 18:32 mark of the second period.
Clark added an empty netter on a full-ice shot at the 19:28 mark of the third period to put the Monsters ahead 4-2. The goal was Clark's first of the season and first as a Monster, and was unassisted.
Pickard is 9-7-2 after stopping 12 of 14 Admirals shots. Darling's record is 7-2-0; he stopped 26 of 29 Monsters shots.
The Monsters and Admirals meet again Saturday night at 7:00 PM at Quicken Loans Arena.
