Falcons Cool Devils, Come Back to Win in Overtime

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (23-5-1-3) defeated the Albany Devils in overtime Friday night by the final score of 4-3, erasing a third-period deficit to extend the team's road point streak to seven games, just one game shy of the franchise record.
Darryl Boyce scored his eighth goal and second game-winning goal of the season, as the veteran placed a wrist shot from the slot past Albany netminder Keith Kinkaid at the 3:13 mark of overtime. For Boyce, the goal was his first since December 8 at Hartford.
The Falcons extinguished a two-goal deficit in the third period after Harri Pesonen and Joe Whitney scored to give Albany a 3-1 edge with 7:53 remaining in regulation. Jake Hansen cut the deficit in half, scoring his eighth goal of the season at the 12:37 mark to make it a 3-2 game. Just 1:01 later, Austin Madaisky fired a slap shot from the right-wing circle by Kinkaid to even the score at 3-3 and force overtime.
Jean- Francois Jacques got Springfield on the board, evening the score at 1-1 at 9:00 of the first period. For Jacques, the goal was his fourth of the season and second in as many games. The 6-foot-3, 231-pound forward notched the game-winning goal Tuesday versus St. John's.
Kelly Zajac scored Albany's first goal at 4:30 of the first period.
Falcons goaltender Jeremy Smith earned his AHL-best 16th win of the season, making 29 saves on 32 shots faced. Smith has started the team's last seven contests, posting a 5-1-1 record over that span.
Kinkaid stopped 24 of 28 in a losing effort for Albany, falling to 13-5-2 this season.
With the win, the Falcons earned a point on the road for the seventh consecutive game. The streak is one game shy of the franchise record, originally set during the 1995-96 season and matched in 2005, from the end of the 2004-05 season and into the beginning of the 2005-06 campaign.
Springfield improved upon its league-leading points percentage, increasing the rate to .781. The team also now holds the most points in the AHL with 50, one more than the Manchester Monarchs and Grand Rapids Griffins.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, January 4 to host the Providence Bruins at the MassMutual Center in downtown Springfield at 7:00 p.m. Garden legend Rene Rancourt will perform the National Anthem and sign autographs on the concourse from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
