Monger Goes 3-for-3, Gilblair Pitches 7.2 Strong in 2-1 Win

July 27, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Cameron Monger knocked in Worcester's only two runs and Shawn Gilblair allowed one unearned run in a 2-1 triumph over the New Jersey Jackals Wednesday night at the HIP.

The Tornadoes continued the series-long trend of winning the game after scoring first. Monger hit an RBI double to plate Alex Trezza in the second, and added a run-scoring single in the fourth, when Mark Minicozzi came home.

The Jackals scored their only run (and unearned mark) in the top of the eighth on a Mike DeJesus sacrifice fly, scoring Argenis Reyes. DeJesus was the last batter Gilblair faced in the victory. He gave up three hits, with only Reyes' being for extra bases. The Worcester southpaw struck out eight batters and walked one in his third win of the season (3-4).

The tough-luck loss went to Isaac Pavlik, who was the second Jackals pitcher to get a complete game loss this series. (Jon Kibler went the distance in game one of the doubleheader on Tuesday.) It was Pavlik's second complete game against the Tornadoes in 2011, with the other being a 5-1 win.

Rick Asadoorian earned his tenth save of the season and notched a strikeout to end the game. Albert Ayala retired the only New Jersey batter he faced in the eighth.

The final home game of the regular season against the Jackals is Thursday night at 7:05pm. The gates at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field open at 6:00, and Tornadoes Pre-Game Live on USTREAM begins at 6:50.
