Pittsfield Colonials News Release
NORTH ADAMS, MA - Playing the first professional baseball games in North Adams in 45 years, the Pittsfield Colonials dropped a doubleheader to the Rockland Boulders, falling 5-3 and 9-2 at Joe Wolfe Field.
The last professional baseball game in North Adams was in 1966 when the Pittsfield Red Sox came to town for a game.
In game one, Rockland got out to the early lead on a two-run homer by Ryan Mollica in the first inning. The Boulders added another run in the fourth on a Joe Hage double, driving in Ryde Rodriguez for a 3-0 Rockland edge. A solo homer from norm Hutchins in the fifth make it 4-0.
Pittsfield got on the board in the fifth on Angel Molina's second homer of the season, a two-run shot that cut the lead to 4-2. The two teams traded runs in the ninth inning to create the final score.
Jonathan Velazquez (4-4) earned the win in game one for Rockland. Adrian Martin recorded his 14th save. Miguel Flores (1-7) went the distance in the loss in the first game for Pittsfield.
In game two, the Boulders once again jumped out early as five first inning singles resulted in three runs and a 3-0 Rockland lead. Pittsfield would crack the scoreboard in the second as Angel Molina led off with a single. Two batters later, Chris Torres doubled, moving Molina to third. Scott Knazek followed with a groundout to short, scoring Molina and cutting the lead to 3-1.
Rockland extended the lead in the third when two runs came in on two hits and a costly error, pushing the Boulder to a 5-1 lead. The Colonials defense opened the door for two more runs in the fourth and a 7-1 Rockland advantage. The scoring was capped on opposing homers by Ryan Mollica and Billy Mottram in the sixth.
Will Hassett (3-4) earned the win for the Boulders with a complete game effort. Chad Paronto (5-5) took the loss for Pittsfield.
The two teams will play a doubleheader again tomorrow to wrap up the series. The games are scheduled for 4 p.m. at Wahconah Park. Pat Moran (6-3, 4.29) and MacKenzie King (1-3, 7.54) will get the starts for Pittsfield against Casey Hodges (3-5, 6.08) and Bobby Blevins (5-4, 3.24) for Rockland.
