Moncton Overpowers Victoriaville 10 - 4

Moncton, NB - The Moncton Wildcats overpowered the Victoriaville Tigers 10 - 4 on Tuesday before 4,970 at the Moncton Coliseum. The victory gives Moncton a 2 - 1 lead in the best-of-seven first round series in the Eastern Division of the QMJHL. Victoriaville Tigers grabbed a 4 - 2 lead early in the second period, before Moncton rattled off eight consecutive goals for the one-sided victory. Christian Gaudet (1st,SH)(2nd)(3rd) and Martins Karsums (2nd)(3rd)(4th,PP) led the Wildcats with three goals and one assist each, while defenseman Oskars Bartulis chipped in with four assists. Brad Marchand (1st,PP) had a goal and two assists, with other goals coming from Philippe Dupuis (2nd), Adam Pineault (3rd) and Jerome Samson (2nd). Maxime Belanger added three assists, Keith Yandle added two helpers, with Dupuis, Samson, Stephane Goulet, Tim Spencer and Jean-Philippe Chabot each adding a single assist. In all, twelve Moncton players hit the score sheet. Replying for Victoriaville were Adam Ross (1st), Maxim Noreau (2nd,PP), Francis Guerette-Charland (1st) and Benoit Doucet (3rd). The teams were tied 2 - 2 after the first period, while Moncton grabbed a 7 - 4 lead heading into the third period. Moncton also dominated the shots on goal by a whopping 67 - 19, including 27 - 6 in the first, 22 - 8 in the second and 18 - 5 in the third. Jhase Sniderman was credited with the victory, as he blocked all eight shots he faced, after coming in relief of starter Josh Tordjman at 5:25 of the second period, who allowed four goals on 11 shots he faced. J.C. Blanchard suffered his second setback of the post-season, as he allowed seven goals on 49 shots in the first two periods, before being relieved by Julien Walsh who allowed three goals on 18 shots in the third period. Moncton was 2 for 14 on the powerplay, while Victoriaville went 1 for 8. The game's three stars were #1 - Christian Gaudet, #2 -Martins Karsums and #3 - Adam Pineault. The teams return to action for Game #4 on Wednesday night at the Moncton Coliseum at 7 pm. Moncton could capture the series in Game #5 on Friday at the Moncton Coliseum.

Cat Tracks: Adam Pineault was awarded a penalty shot at 7:49 of the third period. His blast from the slot area appeared to beat Walsh but referee Brad Mills ruled "no goal"... European defenseman Bartulis was a +5 in the contest...League President Gilles Courteau presented Moncton Wildcats Captain Christian Gaudet the Jean Rougeau Trophy before the opening face-off in recognition of Moncton capturing the regular season championship.
