LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Springfield (11/30): The Manchester Monarchs gave up five goals in the third period squandering a three-goal lead, losing to the Springfield Falcons, 5-4, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs received goals from left wing Marc-Andre Cliche, center Robbie Czarnik, right wing Tyler Toffoli and center Jordan Weal. The Falcons scored goals off the sticks of left wing Matt Calvert, left wing Ryan Craig (two), defenseman Nick Holden and left wing Dalton Smith. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (7-8-1) took his eight loss of the season stopping 27-of-32 shots. Falcons netminder Curtis McElhinney (10-2-2) earned his 10th win of the season making 25 saves on 29 shots. Manchester went 0-for-2 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

@ Springfield (12/1): The Manchester Monarchs split their home-and-home series with a 2-1 victory over the Springfield Falcons at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. Left wing Dwight King and center Linden Vey scored for the Monarchs. Right wing Cam Atkinson scored the lone goal for the Falcons. Monarchs goaltender Peter Mannino (3-1-0) earned his third victory of the season stopping 20-of-21 shots. Falcons netminder Paul Dainton (1-3-1) took his third loss of the season making 27 saves on 29 shots. Manchester went 0-for-7 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

vs. Portland (12/2): The Manchester Monarchs took a 4-0 loss against Portland Pirates in the fourth game in the VIP Cup rivalry series at the Verizon Wireless Arena Sunday afternoon. Left wing Darian Dziurzynski, center Ethan Werek and left wing Rob Klinkhammer (two) scored for the Falcons. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (7-9-1) took his ninth loss of the season stopping 19-of-21 shots. Pirates goaltender Chad Johnson (7-5-0) made 11 saves on 11 shots in the first period before leaving the game. Falcons netminder Mark Visentin (3-5-1) recorded his third victory of the season making 21 saves on 21 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Worcester Sharks (9-7-1-1) sit in first place in the Atlantic Division with 24 points. The Manchester Monarchs (9-6-2-1) are tied with the St. John's IceCaps (11-10-0-1) for second place in the division with 23 points each. The Portland Pirates (10-9-1-1) sit in fourth place in the division with 22 points. The Providence Bruins (9-8-0-2) are in fifth place in division with 20 points.

The Monarchs are 5-2-0-1 on the road and are 5-6-2-0 at home this season.

Manchester split a home-and-home series with the Springfield Falcons losing on Friday November 30 but winning in Springfield on Saturday, December 1.

The Monarchs tied a season-high record of three power play goals against the Falcons on Saturday, November 24. Earlier this season, Manchester scored three power play goals against the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7.

Manchester and Portland are tied at 2-2 in the VIP Cup rivalry series with eight more meetings to determine the inaugural series champion.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (5-12=17) leads the team in assists with 12 and points with 17.

Kozun ranks second on the team with five goals.

Kozun had a three-game assist and point streak (0-3=3) snapped in a 5-4 loss to the Falcons on Friday, November 30.

Kozun leads the team with three game-winning goals this season.

Kozun tallied the game-winning goals against the Sharks on Saturday, October 27, against the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, October 28 and the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7.

Center Linden Vey (4-11=15) is tied with right wing Tyler Toffoli (10-5=15) for second place on the Monarchs in scoring with 15 points each.

Vey is second on the team with 11 assists.

Vey had a three-game assist and point streak (0-7=7) snapped in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.

Vey has nine assists in his last seven games.

Vey tallied a career-best four assists in the 5-1 victory against the Pirates on Tuesday, November 20.

Vey is tied for ninth in the AHL with seven power play assists.

Toffoli leads the team and is third in the AHL among rookies with 10 goals this season.

Toffoli had a five-game point streak (6-2=8) snapped in a 4-0 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, December 2.

Defenseman Slava Voynov (4-7=11) ranks fourth on the Monarchs with 11 points.

Voynov leads the team with 64 shots on goal this season.

Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (2-8=10) ranks fifth on the Monarchs with 10 points.

Bodnarchuk leads the team in plus/minus with a plus-8 rating. Bodnarchuk leads the team's defensemen with eight assists this season.

In four games against his former team, Bodnarchuk has registered three assists, five shots and a plus-1 rating versus Providence.

Center Andrei Loktionov (4-5=9) is tied with left wing Tanner Pearson (4-5=9) for sixth place on the Monarchs with nine points each.

Loktionov, Pearson, Vey and Voynov are tied for third on the team with four goals each.

Loktionov leads the team and is tied for first in the AHL with two shorthanded goals this season.

Pearson had a four-game point streak (1-3=4) snapped in a 4-0 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, December 2.

Pearson registered his first professional goals and points against the Pirates on October 20, registering two goals and an assist in the Monarchs 6-4 victory.

Defenseman Nick Deslauriers (2-6=8) is tied with defenseman Jake Muzzin (1-7=8) and left wing Dwight King (2-5=7) for eighth place on the Monarchs with eight points each.

Deslauriers scored a goal in consecutive games for the first time in his professional career with tallies on Friday, November 23 against the Sharks and Saturday, November 24 against the Falcons.

Muzzin tallied his first goal of the season in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.

King made his season debut with the Monarchs on Saturday, October 27 against the Sharks registering two assists in the game.

King is tied for league lead with two shorthanded assists this season.

Last season, King was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on February 10, 2012. He appeared in 27 regular season games totaling five goals and nine assists for 14 points. King also appeared in 20 playoff games for Los Angeles totaling five goals and three assists for eight points and 13 penalty minutes.

Left wing Marc-Andre Cliche (3-4=7) and defenseman Thomas Hickey (0-7=7) are tied for 11th place on the Monarchs with seven points each.

Cliche appeared in his 300th AHL game (all with the Monarchs) against the Sharks on Friday, November 23.

Cliche ranks second on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 305.

Cliche has scored 61 goals in his career with the Monarchs ranking ninth on the franchise's all-time list.

Cliche ranks ninth on the Monarchs all-time points list with 138 and ranks 10th on the franchise's all-time assist list with 77.

Defenseman David Kolomatis (3-3=6) and right wing Stefan Legein (1-5=6) are tied for 13th place on the Monarchs with six points each.

Kolomatis and center Andy Andreoff (3-1=4) are tied for seventh on the team with three goals each.

All three of Kolomatis' goals this season have come when the team was on a power play. Kolomatis is tied with Toffoli and Pearson for the team lead with three power play goals each.

Left wing Richard Clune (1-3=4) and Andreoff are tied for 15th on the Monarchs with four points each.

Clune leads the team with 61 penalty minutes.

Clune's 753 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs all-time career penalty minutes list.

Andreoff tallied the game-winning goal at 1:43 of the third period on Opening Night against the Bruins on Friday, October 12.

Right wing Brian O'Neill (1-2=3) and left wing Jordan Nolan (1-2=3) are tied for 17th place on the Monarchs with three points each.

O'Neill has three points (1-2=3) in his last five games.

O'Neill scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 loss against the Bruins on Friday, November 16.

Nolan has three points (1-2=3) in six games since returning from an upper body injury.

Center Robbie Czarnik (2-0=2) and center Jordan Weal (1-1=2) are tied for 19th place on the Monarchs with two points each this season.

Czarnik recorded his second goal of the season against the Falcons in a 5-4 loss on Friday, November 30.

Weal scored his first professional goal in a 5-4 loss against the Falcons on Friday, November 30.

Defenseman Vincent LoVerde (0-1=1) and defenseman Andrew Campbell (0-1=1) are tied for 22nd on the Monarchs with one point each.

LoVerde notched his first AHL assist and point on Friday, November 30 against the Falcons.

Campbell's 303 games rank third all-time on the Monarchs most games played list.

Campbell did not dress for the Monarchs on Sunday, October 28. It was his first game missed since March 13, 2011. Campbell remains out of the line-up with an upper body injury.

Right wing Justin Johnson (0-0=0) made his season debut against the Bruins on Friday, November 16. Left wing David Meckler (0-0=0) made his season debut against the Sharks on Sunday, November 4.

Meckler holds the franchise record for games played with 352 in a Monarchs uniform. Meckler's 350th game came against the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.

Goaltender Martin Jones (7-9-1) surrendered a goal at 16:44 of the first period on Friday, November 9 marking his first goal against in 114:03 minutes spanning three games from November 4-9.

Jones has played in 17-of-21 games this season registering a 2.43 goals-against-average, a 0.919 save percentage and stopping 463-of- 504 shots attempts.

Jones' 0.919 save percentage and 2.43 goals-against-average rank tied for 11th place and tied for 12th place in the league, respectively.

Goaltender Peter Mannino (3-1-0) made his Monarchs debut against his former team, the IceCaps, on Wednesday, November 7. Mannino allowed one goal in 60 minutes and made 26 saves of 27 shots (0.963 save percentage).

This season, Mannino has a 1.87 goal-against-average and a 0.926 save percentage in five games.
