Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the St. Louis Blues have reassigned forward Stefan Della Rovere from the Rivermen ECHL affiliate, the Evansville IceMen. The club has also reassigned forward Sebastian Wannstrom and defenseman Brett Ponich to Evansville.
Della Rovere, 22, appeared in four ECHL games while working his way back from an off-season injury. He accumulated one assist and seven penalty minutes, including a fight on Nov. 30. He has yet to appear in a game this season for the Rivermen.
Last season, the 5-foot-11-inch, 200-pound winger played in 69 games for the Rivermen and registered 10 points (4g, 6a) and 116 penalty minutes. In his 135 AHL games with Peoria, he has 26 points (12g, 14a) and 226 penalty minutes.
Originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the seventh round (#204 overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, the Richmond Hill, ON native was acquired by the St. Louis Blues in exchange for D.J. King on July 28, 2010.
Ponich, 21, has skated in nine games for the Rivermen before being injured on Nov. 9. He registered 22 penalty minutes and a minus-1 rating over that time. He has appeared in 70 games in his professional career - all with Peoria since the start of last season.
Originally selected by the Blues in the second round (#48 overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-7-inch, 204-pound defenseman is a native of Edmonton, Alta. and played his junior hockey for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.
Wannstrom, 21, made his North American debut with the Rivermen this season after spending parts of the past three seasons in the Swedish Elite League. In 16 games he has a goal and two assists with four penalty minutes.
The Gavle, Sweden native was originally drafted by the Blues in the second round, 44th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
