News & Notes
The Monarchs have dropped five straight decisions to the Lowell Lock Monsters (0-4-0-1). The losing streak is the longest for the Monarchs against one opponent in the history of the franchise.
The Monarchs won their 150th game in franchise history on Friday night. The Monarchs topped the Portland Pirates, 4-1, for the milestone victory.
Including playoffs, the Monarchs skated in their 300th game as a franchise on Sunday night against the Lowell Lock Monsters. Only Monarchs broadcaster Ken Cail and Equipment Manager Mike Holden have witnessed all 300 Monarchs games.
Center Michael Cammalleri tied a franchise record with his league-leading 14th power play goal of the season on Friday night against the Pirates. Cammalleri is tied with former Monarchs left wing Eric Healey (2001-03), who recorded 14 power play goals during the 2002-03 season.
Cammalleri, who leads the league with 29 goals overall, needs just 13 more goals to tie Healey's record for most goals in a season.
Healey led the AHL with 42 goals in 2002-03.
Now with 54 career goals, Cammalleri is third on the Monarchs all-time goals scored list. He needs just 13 goals over the rest of the season to tie former Monarchs left wing Pavel Rosa (2002-04) for first place on the all-time list with 67 career goals.
Cammalleri, selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second-round (49th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, enters this week's action with a nine-game scoring streak. He has six goals and 15 points (6-9=15) during the streak.
The 22-year-old Cammalleri has 124 points (54-70=124) in 99 career games with the Monarchs. His 124 career points are fifth alltime on the Monarchs scoring list.
Right wing Brad Smyth enters this week's action with a nine-game scoring streak after scoring his 14th goal of the season on Sunday night against the Lowell Lock Monsters. Smyth has four goals and 10 points (4-6=10) during the streak, which equals his longest of the season.
Smyth, originally signed by the Florida Panthers as a free agent in 1993 and signed by the Los Angeles Kings to a two-year contract last summer, has 565 points (283-282=565) in 505 career AHL games with the Monarchs, the Binghamton Senators, the Wolf Pack, the Carolina Monarchs and the Springfield Falcons. His 565 career points rank 50th on the league's all-time scoring list.
Left wing Dustin Brown has scored at least a point in 11 of his last 12 games. Brown, selected by the Kings in the first-round (13th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, has four goals and 14 points (4-10=14) in his past 12 games.
Brown (20-27=47) is one of three Monarchs to appear in all 46 games this season. Left wing Chris Schmidt (4-7=11) and defenseman Mike Weaver (1-13=14; plus-20) are the other two.
Right wing George Parros has collected the game-winning goal in each of the last two Monarchs wins. The Monarchs beat the Pirates on Friday night and topped the Albany River Rats by a score of 6-2 on January 22.
