(PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 1, 2005) - The Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League announced today that defenseman Randy Jones has been named the Toyota Phantoms Player of the Month for January. Jones will receive his award in a pregame presentation on Friday, Feb. 4, when the Phantoms host the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Wachovia Spectrum at 7:05 p.m.

"Randy has consistently been a good player for our team and he is playing some of his best hockey of late," said Phantoms head coach John Stevens. "He is starting to play like a veteran player."

In 12 games in January, Jones registered a goal and two assists for three points and four penalty minutes. He was tied with Ben Stafford for the team lead in plus/minus with a +5 as the Phantoms maintained the best winning percentage in the East Division.

Currently in his second year with the Phantoms, Jones has three goals and 13 assists for 16 points and 20 penalty minutes in 41 games this season. He was named the Phantoms' Rookie of the Year at the conclusion of the 2003-04 season when he finished with eight goals and 24 assists for 32 points and 63 penalty minutes in 55 games. He also made his NHL debut last year, going scoreless in five games with the Flyers.

This is the second time that Jones has been named the Toyota Phantoms Player of the Month, previously winning the award in December 2003.

The Toyota Phantoms Player of the Month award is in its second season, as a Phantoms player will be honored each month through the end of the regular season for his contributions on the ice. Tony Voce was the winner for the month of October; November's winner was Antero Niittymaki and Patrick Sharp won the award for December.
