February 1, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The American Hockey League announced today that Rochester Americans goaltender Ryan Miller has been named the Koho Goaltender of the Month for January.
In 12 games during the month, Miller posted a 9-2-1 record, along with a 1.57 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage.
On Monday, Miller was named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 30th. This was the second time this season that Miller has earned the AHL honor. He was also named Player of the Week for the week ending on November 14, 2004.
With just three losses in his last 23 decisions (18-3-2), Miller has taken over the AHL lead in wins (25) and shutouts (6), while ranking second in minutes played (2,244), third in saves (1,098) and fourth in save percentage (.933). Miller's 25-11-2 record and 2.11 GAA have helped the Amerks to the best record in the AHL's Western Conference On January 28th, Miller tied the Amerks' single-season record with his sixth shutout of the season, stopping all 27 shots he faced in Rochester's 4-0 blanking of Binghamton. That record is currently shared by Bobby Perreault (67-68), Martin Biron (98-99) and Mika Noronen (99-00). On the week, Miller was 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .974 save percentage.
Last week, Miller was also named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team for the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, to be played Feb. 13-14 at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. This will be Miller's second-straight AHL All-Star Game appearance. Last season, he was the PlanetUSA starting goalie at the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Game. At the AHL All-Star Skills Competition, he was named the Pepsi Top Goaltender Award for posting a save percentage of .880.
In recognition of his achievement, Miller will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Americans home game. A native of East Lansing, Mich., Miller is in his third season with the Amerks after three stellar years at Michigan State University, where he captured the Hobey Baker Award in 2001.
