PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Monarchs (72 pts.) regained their lead in the North Division after last night's victory over the Royals, and now lead the Brampton Beast by one point for the top spot and #1 seed in the North. In the tightly contested division, the Adirondack Thunder trail by four points and the Royals are now chasing the pace by five points. The Wheeling Nailers continue to lurk in the weeds with 62 points.

If the playoffs were to start today, the Monarchs and Royals would match-up in the North Division Semifinals of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

FIRST IN A WHILE

Jack Flinn stepped into the pipes last night and won his first game with the Monarchs since a 5-4 OTW against the Norfolk Admirals on Nov. 11. Flinn allowed two goals on 40 shots, good for a 0.950 save percentage, after posting identical 0.840 save percentages in his first two Monarchs starts. With the Ontario Reign this season, Flinn only played in five games, including three starts, and posted a 0.874 save percentage from Nov. 11-Feb. 28.

SECOND IS THE BEST

The Monarchs used another high-scoring second period to take control of last night's game, scoring all three of their goals in the middle frame to add to their league-leading second stanza scoring barrage. The Monarchs continue to lead the ECHL with 90 goals in the middle frame, and have now scored 41.7 percent of their total goals in the second period.

GO AHEAD, OUTSHOOT US

The Monarchs were outshot in last night's victory, 40-34, but came away with their 16th victory of the season (16-7-4-2) when trailing in the shot column. The 16 wins are tied for the second-most victories when being outshot, and their seven regulation losses are tied for the fourth-fewest in the ECHL.

WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED

The Monarchs entered Santander Arena last night on a nine-game winless streak on the road, the third-longest in the league this season, but ran into a Reading team they have dominated all season. Including their victory yesterday, the Monarchs are now 7-1-0-0 against the Royals this season, outscoring their former ECHL affiliate, 31-20, on the season. Manchester's dominance over Reading is in stark contrast to the 2015-16 season, when the Monarchs could only muster a 4-6-0-0 record against the Royals.
