MALLARDS NOTES

Last Game

Tanner Sorenson scored at 1:10 of overtime to give the Kalamazoo Wings a 3-2 victory over the host Mallards Wednesday.

Central

The third-place Mallards are three points ahead of the fourth-place Wings and eight points behind the second-place Fort Wayne Komets in the Central Division. The Wings, who defeated the Brampton Beast last night, have played one more game than the Mallards. The Mallards tonight complete a stretch of six straight games against division opposition. They have gone 2-2-1 over their last five games.

Overtime

Sunday's loss was the Mallards' first overtime defeat this season. The Mallards are now 3-1 in games decided in overtime.

Sudden Death

Sunday's loss ended the Mallards' streak of eight straight wins in games tied at the end of regulation. Before falling to the Wings Sunday, the Mallards had won three games in sudden death and five in the shootout since suffering a 3-2 shootout loss to Kalamazoo on December 7.

Axtell

The Mallards have gone 12-6-1 in 19 games since Phil Axtell took over as head coach on January 20.

Short Timer

The Mallards twice took the lead Wednesday, but for a total of just 56 seconds. Grant Arnold opened the scoring at 18:00 of the first period only for the Wings' Peter Schneider to tie the score just 40 seconds later. At 10:41 of the second period, Josh MacDonald's power play goal gave the Mallards a 2-1 lead that lasted just 16 seconds before Lane Scheidl equalized for Kalamazoo.

Home Sweet Home

The Mallards tonight complete a three-game (1-0-1) homestand.

On the Road

The Mallards, who return to the road with games in Wheeling next Friday and Saturday, have a better record on the road (17-12-0) than at home (14-10-3).

Red Light District

The Mallards have scored two (non-shootout) goals or fewer in six of their last seven games. The Mallards rank nineteenth in the ECHL in goals scored per game (3.1) and rank ninth in goals allowed (3.0 per game).

Shooting Gallery

The Mallards allowed 40 shots Wednesday and have now surrendered at least 40 shots in two of their last three games and at least 35 in each of those three outings. The Mallards piled up 20 shots in the first period Wednesday, finished that game with 36 shots and have now totaled 85 shots over their last two games.

Mac Attack

Wednesday's goal was MacDonald's fourth in his last five games and extended his point-scoring streak to five games (4-2-6). He has produced at a point-per-game clip (5-6-11) over 11 games since joining the Mallards in February 6 trade with Rapid City.

Perfect 10

Justin Kovacs assisted on both Mallard goals Wednesday and has recorded four points (one goal and three assists) in his last two games. Kovacs has also now taken over sole possession of the team lead in assists (27).

Helping Hand

Brady Brassart also notched a pair of assists Wednesday and has three assists in his last two games.

Back-to-Back

Arnold has scored in each of the Mallards' last two games.

Parks and Wreck

Michael Parks leads the Mallards and ranks fourth among ECHL rookies in goals (21).

On the Plus Side

Kevin Gibson is tied for sixth in the ECHL in plus/minus rating (plus-25).

Between the Pipes

C.J. Motte ranks third in the ECHL in save percentage (.919), ranks sixth in goals against average (2.53) and is tied for ninth in wins (17).
