ORLANDO, Fla. - Colin Stevens stopped all 25 shots he faced to earn the shutout, as the Manchester Monarchs blanked the Orlando Solar Bears, 3-0, in the first meeting of a three-game series, Wednesday night at the Amway Center.

With the win, the Monarchs (26-12-1-4) beat the Solar Bears (17-17-2-3) for the first time in franchise history, and added to their division lead over idle Adirondack.

Danick Paquette started the Monarchs scoring, netting his 6th goal of the season at 15:40 of the first period. The play started with a strong forecheck by Alex Guptill. Guptill found the puck on his stick and fed a cross-crease pass to a wide open Paquette who beat Orlando goaltender, Ryan Massa, for the early lead.

Joey Diamond added to the Monarchs advantage when he scored his 8th goal of the season. Maxim Kitsyn grabbed the primary assist when he dropped a pass to Diamond in the left face-off circle, where Diamond unleashed a slap shot past the glove of Massa at 5:40 of the second period.

Mark Anthoine put the game on ice with an empty-net score at 18:42 of the final frame, scoring is 4th goal of the season.

Stevens was tested late in the game, but the first-year goaltender never flinched, matching Massa save-for-save down the stretch.

The Monarchs and Solar Bears will play tomorrow night (7 p.m.) from the Amway Center in the middle game of their three-game series.
