Allen Americans News Release
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Allen Americans begin the first of a four game set against the Tulsa Oilers, opening with a 2-0 loss at the BOK Center.
While the Americans have points in all of their last six games, they have been subject to a slow start. That was once again the occasion in Tulsa as Allen managed ten shots in the period, however, none that converted into legitimate scoring opportunities. Tulsa was able to break the ice when Ben Walker punched home a loose puck in a net-front scramble about halfway into the opening frame.
Allen continued to lack execution in the second period. The Americans got themselves into penalty trouble in the period and it came back to bite them. Dan DeSalvo scored a Power Play goal, his 11th on the season, a matter of minutes after the period began. To add on to the woes, the Americans only generated 6 shots in the second, totaling 16. Opposed to Tulsa's 33, shot totals were reminiscent of which team was controlling the game up to that point.
The third period had hope for the Americans to crawl their way back into the game, down 2-0. However, Kevin Carr stood tall in net, and the Oilers offense provided a lead that the Americans would not be able to surmount.
With only 11 points separating these two teams (Allen: 51 points, Tulsa: 40 points), both teams are in a crucial stretch of the season, as they will meet each other in the next four games. Mathematically, that gives either team an opportunity to grab a possible 8 points in the standings. Tulsa has a great chance to gain ground, while Allen has a chance to run away from the third place Oilers.
