Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo Wings return home on Friday, January 29 to kick off a four-game home stand beginning with Star Wars Weekend at Wings Event Center, presented by Celebration! Cinema.
The weekend games (Friday, January 29 and Sunday, January 31) will feature live-action characters, props for photo opportunities, a Star Wars costume contest, a reveal of the Wings' never-before-seen futuristic jerseys (to be worn on February 6), a post-game skate (Sunday), and specialty Star Wars themed jerseys which will be auctioned off after Sunday's game, with all proceeds going to the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek Autism Society.
Celebration! Cinema will host the costume contest on both Friday and Sunday, and over the weekend they will be distributing over $200 in gift cards, two 31-inch Darth Vader replicas, two Chewbacca backpacks filled with Star Wars toys and books, as well as "stress relief" pucks to the first 500 fans through the doors on Friday and keychains to the first 500 fans in attendance on Sunday.
Friday's game sees Kalamazoo hosting the Quad City Mallards for the first time this season and for the first time since February, 2007, when both teams were members of the United Hockey League. Kalamazoo is 1-1-1-0 against Quad City on the season, and the Wings picked up three of a possible four points against the Mallards two weekends ago at iWireless Center in Moline, IL. The Wings have won 27 of 52 all-time meetings with the Mallards in all leagues.
Sunday's game features the Wings squaring off with the Fort Wayne Komets for the seventh time on the year and the third time this season at Wings Event Center. Kalamazoo have struggled against Fort Wayne this year, posting a 1-5-0-0 record against the Komets through the first six games of the eight-game season series.
The Kalamazoo Wings host the 2016 CCM/ECHL Hockey Heritage Week, presented by PNC Bank and Bronson Sports Medicine, from February 1-6 at Wings Event Center and throughout the city of Kalamazoo. The one-of-a-kind event features viewing/photo opportunities with the Stanley Cup, Hockey Hall of Fame exhibits and trophies, two games with the Toledo Walleye, and more. Group rates start as low as $12 per person for a group of six or more.
The "throwback" game on Friday, February 5 features a $5 16 oz. souvenir cup filled with a domestic draft and $1 refills.
Single-game tickets are now on sale! Tickets can be purchased at kwings.com or at the Wings Event Center box office. Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A $2 discount is applied on all tickets purchased before the date of the game. Any student that shows a valid ID can get tickets for just $10.
