Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League announced today that the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League have named Manchester Monarchs Assistant Coach Bobby Jay the new Director of Hockey Operations for the AHL club. The Rampage began AHL operations last year.

Jay, 37, was hired by the Monarchs in the summer of 2001 and spent two seasons in the Queen City. With him assisting behind the bench, the Monarchs posted a 78-51-22-9 record and advanced to the Calder Cup Playoffs twice. Prior to his tenure with the Monarchs, Jay, a native of Burlington, MA, also served as an Assistant Coach with the Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League for two seasons.

"This was a hard decision for me to make because the entire Los Angeles Kings organization is top-notch," said Jay, a veteran of 14 seasons of professional hockey and a two-time Turner Cup Champion with the IHL's Vipers (1996-97) and Fort Wayne Komets (1992-93). "It has been a pleasure working with Dave Taylor (Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager), Kevin Gilmore (Kings Assistant General Manager/Monarchs General Manager), Bruce Boudreau (Monarchs Head Coach) and the rest of the Kings organization."

"It is an exciting opportunity for me to go back to working for Rick Dudley and Steve Ludzik," said Jay. "I know what they look for in a winning team and I am eager to build on the Rampage's success from last season. It was an opportunity that I could not pass up."

Jay, a defenseman, spent five seasons (1994-99) with the Vipers as a player. While with the team he played for current Rampage Head Coach Steve Ludzik and current Florida Panthers General Manager Rick Dudley for three seasons (1996-99).

Jay, who played four years of varsity hockey at Merrimack College and graduated with a degree in business management in 1988, will remain with the Monarchs through mid-August. He will assist with the team's Hockey School, set for August 11-15, before relocating to the San Antonio area.

Currently, the only way to secure a seat for the Monarchs 2003-04 Home Opener is to purchase a Monarchs season ticket package. The Monarchs offer full season, half season, and ten-game packages. Individual tickets for all Monarchs home games will go on sale to the public in late September. For more season ticket information, visit the Monarchs on-line or call (603) 626-7825.
