July 23, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY – The HERSHEY BEARS announced today in conjunction with the Tampa Bay Lightning that defenseman Pascal Trepanier has been signed by the NHL club. In accordance with club policy, terms were not disclosed.

"Pascal was a huge part of our last Calder Cup title in 1997, and his skill on the blueline can very much help us this season," stated BEARS President/General Manager Doug Yingst. "Our fans should have a chance to relive the past while watching his contributions in the present. A player of his caliber will have a good chance to stay in the National Hockey League, but we would be thrilled to see him back in HERSHEY if he were assigned here.

A member of the 1996-97 Calder Cup Champion team, Trepanier scored 14 goals and 53 points in 73 games for the BEARS during the regular season that year. He also added 6 goals and 19 points in 23 playoff games during the 1997 Calder Cup Playoffs, helping the BEARS to the championship. Since his stint in HERSHEY, Trepanier has played in 229 NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators, and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

"Pascal Trepanier is an experienced, veteran player who adds tremendous depth to our organization," Lightning General Manager Jay Feaster said. "He has played more than 200 games in the NHL and can play both defense and forward, which makes him even more valuable to our franchise. "Trep" will be given every opportunity to make our hockey team out of training camp; however, if he does not make our team we are very excited about having him return to HERSHEY to show our young players what it takes to be a Calder Cup champion.

The Bears open up the home portion of the 2003-04 season on Saturday, October 19th at GIANT Center. Season ticket information is available by calling 520-5796.
