CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim signed goaltender Eddy Ferhi to a two-year contract and defenseman Juha Alen to a three-year deal on Wednesday.
Ferhi played his senior season at Sacred Heart University in 2002-2003, winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Co-Goalie of the Year Award after posting the best goals-against average (2.10) and save percentage (.922) in the league. A three-time winner of the MAAC Goalie of the Week this past season, the 6-foot-3, 197-pounder finished his career at Sacred Heart with the most wins (36) and best goals-against average (2.63) in school history.
The 23-year-old Charenton, France native also appeared in one game with Cincinnati of the American Hockey League last season, earning a win and allowing just two goals in 60 minutes.
Alen was selected by Anaheim in the third round of this year's draft. He had four goals and 19 assists last season as a freshman at Northern Michigan University. The Tampere, Finland native ranked tied for first among Northern Michigan defensemen in games and assists, while finishing second in points. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder also led the team in penalty minutes (64).
Ferhi and Alen are both expected to be among the Anaheim prospects assigned to AHL Cincinnati in September.
