July 23, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
San Antonio â The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League announced today that the Florida Panthers have named Bobby Jay as the Rampage's new director of hockey operations. He joins a hockey operations staff that includes Head Coach Steve Ludzik and Assistant Coach Scott Allen.
Jay, 37, has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs. During his tenure the Monarchs posted a 78-51-22-9 mark, while advancing to the Calder Cup playoffs each season. He broke into the coaching ranks during the 1999-00 campaign as an assistant with the International Hockey League's Detroit Vipers.
"I look forward to working with Bobby again," said Ludzik. "He did a great job as an assistant in Manchester and his experience in the AHL will help the Rampage continue to develop."
The Burlington, Massachusetts native began his professional playing career with the IHL's Fort Wayne Komets where he played for three years (1990-1993). Jay helped lead the Komets to the Turner Cup Championship in 1993 and was named the team's most valuable defensive player, while also being named to the IHL's All-Star team.
"It is an exciting opportunity for me to go back to working for Rick Dudley and Steve Ludzik," said Jay. "I know what they look for in a winning team and I am eager to build on the Rampage's success from last season. It was an opportunity that I could not pass up."
After a season with the IHL's Phoenix Roadrunners and a brief stint with the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings, Jay spent the next five seasons (1994-99) with the IHL's Detroit Vipers. While with the Vipers he played for current Rampage Head Coach Steve Ludzik and current Florida Panthers General Manager Rick Dudley for three seasons (1996-99) earning his second Turner Cup Championship in 1997.
Jay played four years of varsity hockey at Merrimack College and graduated with a degree in business management in 1988, before spending one year playing hockey in Sweden.
Full-season, half-season, ten-game, five-game and flex ticket packages for the Rampage's second season in the AHL are available by calling a Rampage ticket representative at 210-444-5050 or by logging onto sarampage.com.
