Modesto downs Lake Elsinore 13-5

LAKE ELSINORE –The Modesto Nuts scored nine times in the last two innings and beat the Lake Elsinore Storm Thursday night 13-5. Steven Register got the win going six innings, allowing two unearned runs in the first inning, five hits, no walks and one strike out. Dirk Hayhurst took the loss for the Storm.

Modesto got home runs from Michael Davies, his fourth of the season, in the third inning, Ian Stewart, his fourth, in the sixth and Jordan Czarniecki, his second, in the eighth inning. Czarniecki's homer was his first hit of the night and extended his hitting streak to 18 games. Randy Blood drove in four runs with three hits for Modesto, including two doubles, and a sacrifice fly.

With the win Modesto is now four games over .500 for the first time this season. They still trail the first place San Jose Giants by 6 ½ games.

Modesto now heads up to Adelanto to open a three game series against the High Desert Mavericks. Steven Register goes to the mound for Modesto against the Maverick's John Gragg. Game time at Maverick Stadium is 7:05 p.m.
