Bakersfield Blaze News Release

The Bakersfield Blaze roster is ever-changing recently. In the past week the Blaze have lost two of their five starting pitchers, lefty John Danks and right hander Edison Volquez have both been promoted to AA Frisco in the Texas League, but the Blaze have received help from above in both cases. Right-hander Matt Lorenzo joined the team from Frisco earlier in the week. Now the Blaze parent club, the Texas Rangers, have sent former Major League pitcher Jason Boyd to bolster the Blaze pitching corps.

Boyd, a well traveled five year Major Legaue veteran has a career 5-2 record with a 5.72 ERA for four different Major League Clubs. His best season came in 2003 as a member of the Cleveland Indians when he went 3-1 with a 4.30 ERA in 44 relief appearances for "The Tribe". It is unclear at this point whether Boyd will work out of the pen in Bakersfield, and if so who will move into Volquez' spot in the rotation on Sunday.

The Blaze return to Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark on Tuesday after a week on the road. Starting Tuesday night is the Blaze only home-stand in the month of June. The Blaze will be at home Tuesday June 7 through Monday June 13. Friday Night June 11 the first 1000 in the gates will receive free Blaze baseball caps courtesy of our weekend sponsors and on Saturday free car sun visors courtesy of State Farm Insurance to the first 500 adults in attendance.
