Mobile Rallies to Defeat Mississippi 4-2

PEARL, MS - The Mobile BayBears defeated the Mississippi Braves by a final score of 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The BayBears erased a late one run deficit in the top of the ninth inning after Jose Rojas drove a three-run homerun over the right field wall.

Alay Lago produced the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning when he sent a sacrifice fly into foul territory down the right field line which allowed Daniel Lockhart to tag up and score from third base.

With the M-Braves leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Lago showed his speed as he advanced and scored from third base on a wild pitch by Mobile relief pitcher, Matt Custred, extending the M-Braves lead 2-0.

Mobile earned their first run of the game in the top of the seventh inning courtesy of a line drive RBI single from leadoff batter, Bo Way.

The score would remain 2-1 in favor of the M-Braves until the top of the ninth inning when Rojas blasted his three-run shot, giving the BayBears a 4-2 lead that they would not surrender.

RHP Touki Toussaint's performance on the mound proved to be the bright spot for the M-Braves in Wednesday afternoon's contest. The M-Braves starter provided his club with a quality start after allowing four hits, one run, which was earned, walking four and striking out five in 6.1 innings pitched.

Mobile relief pitcher, Jeremy Rhoades (3-0, 2.37) was credited with the win while Mississippi reliever, Jacob Webb (1-1, 3.00) suffered the loss and a blown save.

The M-Braves and the BayBears will face each other for the fourth time in four days on Thursday, May 10 at Trustmark Park. The first pitch of Thursday night's contest is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CST). RHP Wes Parsons (1-2, 1.61) has been named the Thursday night starter for the M-Braves. Opposite of Parsons on the mound will be Mobile southpaw, Jose Suarez (1-1, 4.80). Promotions for Thursday night's game will include, Thirsty Thursday presented by Mosquito Authority (canned domestic beer and 16 oz. fountain drinks will be $2 each) and Chick-fil-a Giveaway presented by Chick-fil-a (Chick-fil-a Biscuit or Chick-n-Minis coupon to the first 2,000 fans).

The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, over 125 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball.
