Mittelstadt Named to Final NHLCS Rankings List

Madison Capitols News Release

Luke Mittelstadt was selected with the second overall pick in the 2019 USHL Phase I Draft by the Capitols, and he looks to be selected again by a team, this time in the NHL. The final batch of NHL Central Scouting Rankings came out on Tuesday. The former Caps blueliner, Mittelstadt finds himself on the list of North American Skaters hoping to hear their names called in June.

Mittelstadt played the 2021-22 season with the Capitols leading the team in scoring en route to the Clark Cup Final. Following his time with Madison, he has made his way to the University of Minnesota where he finished as a runner up in the NCAA Championship game earlier this month. He played a pivotal part in the Gophers path to the championship game, scoring twice in the Frozen Four semifinal game.

The former All-USHL First Team defenseman has been ranked 97th, a fourth round grade, by NHL Central Scouting prior to the draft in Nashville this summer. He is the only player with Capitols ties on the list but looks to be a threat for an NHL team in the future after putting up 21 points his freshman season in a loaded defensive core for Minnesota. Already, two of the defensemen in front of Luke have played in NHL games, which should create more ice time going forward for the Eden Prairie native.

Although Mittelstadt will not be suiting up for Madison this weekend, the current edition of the Caps will. Puck drop on Friday night is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Friday night as the Caps host Green Bay for the final home game of the season. It is our annual Frozen Lemonade Classic presented by Northwestern Mutual benefitting UW Children's Hospital through Alex's Lemonade Stand. The game also marks our final $1 Beer Night of the season. Tickets are available at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
