April 19, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The "who" and "when" are still to be determined, but the "where" is locked in; there will be Waterloo Black Hawks playoff hockey at Young Arena next week.
Today, the Black Hawks shared details about potential postseason dates at times. The Hawks are currently second in the USHL Western Conference, one point ahead of the Lincoln Stars. Waterloo can only finish in second or third place. The team finishing second earns a first round bye and advances immediately to the conference semifinals. Both the first round and the conference semifinals are best-of-three series played at the home rink of the better-seeded team. In all scenarios below, Game Three is "if necessary."
If the Hawks finish 2nd in the Western Conference, a best-of-three series would be at Young Arena next weekend. That series COULD be either Friday (4/28), Saturday (4/29), and Sunday (4/30) OR Saturday (4/29), Sunday (4/30), and Monday (5/1). The exact dates and times will depend on results elsewhere in the Western Conference. In this scenario, the opponent could be the Lincoln Stars, Des Moines Buccaneers, or Sioux Falls Stampede.
If the Hawks finish 3rd in the Western Conference, a best-of-three series at Young Arena would be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Each game would be at 7:05 p.m. Either the Des Moines Buccaneers or the Sioux Falls Stampede would be the opponent.
Black Hawks playoff ticket information will be released once the game dates have been determined. Season ticket holders receive complementary tickets for Waterloo's initial series whether it is in the first round or the conference semifinals.
The Hawks' final regular season home game is this Saturday at 6:05 p.m. against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The first 500 fans will receive a 2022/23 team photo, and hundreds of t-shirts will be thrown into the crowd at the first intermission, courtesy of Next Generation Wireless. Good seats are still available from the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office or via tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com.
