Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas starter Ryan Mitchell was in control of the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings batters all night, allowing no earned runs and just four hits and struck out ten as the Dillas beat the WhiteWings 4-2 on Monday night in front of 3,148 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Mitchell (2-0) lowered his ERA to 2.67 in the dominant performance, walking only one batter and hitting another. Colts starter Misael DeJesus (0-1) got the loss, despite allowing only one hit and one run in five innings, striking out six along the way. Dillas reliever Tyler Pearson got his first save as he retired the last batter of the game.

Amarillo would get on the board in the first inning as Adam De La Garza led of with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a Carlos Figueroa groundout and scored on a Daryl Jones RBI groundout for a 1-0 Dillas lead.

Both pitchers kept batters off the base paths, as Mitchell retired 13-in-a-row, while DeJesus retired eight out of nine. Both leadoff batters in the first inning had singles, but Amarillo didn't get their second hit until the sixth, while the WhiteWings didn't get their second hit until the seventh.

The Dillas got back on the board in the seventh as Kyle Hobbs led off with a double, went to third on a Kent Wright sacrifice bunt and scored on a two-out error. Following a TJ Warren single, Figueroa doubled to right field to score De La Garza and Warren for a 4-0 Amarillo lead.

Mitchell cruised through the eighth and was one strike away from a complete game shutout, but an error and a Eric Gonzalez two-RBI single took him out of the game. Brand new Dillas pitcher Pearson came in and got a three-pitch force out to end the game with the Dillas winning 4-2.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 10-9, while the WhiteWings fall to 11-8. Tuesday, Amarillo will take on the WhiteWings for the second game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline by visiting www.myamarillodillas.com.
