Laredo Broncos News Release

The Broncos, looking for a series split with the Road Runners sent LHP Brian Buchanan to the mound for his fourth start of the year. RHP Mark Dibernardo was on the bump for the Road Runners, also making his fourth start of the year.

The Broncos took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Kenny Gilbert singled and moved to second on a throwing error by the shortstop Wilson Batista. Nike Mahin then picked up his eighth RBI of the season and the score was 1-0 Broncos. Dustin Spruill singled and moved Mahin to third. The right fielder Concepcion threw to third base in an attempt to throw out Mahin and the ball went into the dugout to bring Mahin home and give the Broncos a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first Buchanan would give up a wind-aided home run to Wilson Batista; his first of the year and the score was 2-1 Broncos.

Dibernardo's defense failed him multiple times in this game and it happened in the fourth. Doug Thennis singled and moved to second on a bobble by center fielder Vincent Blue. Up next, Gabe Memmert, he would hit an RBI single to plate Thennis and give the Broncos a 3-1 lead. David Fowler would double, moving Memmert to third and Ryan Flynn picked up his ninth RBI of the season with a SAC fly, and the Broncos led 4-2.

Buchanan was cruising for the Broncos, only allowing two hits through four innings. In the bottom of the fifth Alexis Hernandez hit a solo home run to cut the lead Broncos 4, Road Runners 2.

The score would remain 4-2 Broncos until the top of the eighth, when again the Road Runner defense would show its holes. Gilbert would start with a single; Mahin would reach on the fielder's choice. On the play Gilbert was retired at second and the throw went into the dugout. An error was charged to Wilmer Pino and Mahin moved to third base. After a Spruill groundout Thennis knocked in Mahin with a single and the score was 5-2 Broncos. To round out the scoring for the Broncos, Memmert picked up his second RBI of the game by plating Thennis with a single and the Broncos led 6-2.

That was the score in the bottom of the eighth when LHP Vinnie Dechirstofaro came into the game. Dechristofaro got a double play ball to end the eighth and then retired the Road Runners in order in the ninth to give the Broncos their sixth win of the season.
