Missoula doubles up Orem

Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

A four-run fourth proved to be the difference Monday night as Missoula doubled up Orem in the first of three games, 8-4.

Luis Rivera hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth to trim the early Missoula lead to one, 3-2. However, reliever Brok Butcher, making his first appearance with the Owlz after joining the club earlier in the day, labored in the bottom of the inning, facing nine men and surrendering four RBI singles.

Butcher, who was sent up from Mesa after four strong starts, gave up a one out double and then a walk to put two men on. Osprey hitters Tyler Jones and Derrick Walker then delivered consecutive RBI hits.

After an intentional walk, Shea McFeely and Jose Dijol followed with RBI singles of their own, increasing Missoula's lead to five, 7-2.

The Owlz would get one in the fifth and another in the sixth but could pull no closer.

The run in the sixth came off another solo homerun by Luis Rivera, his second of the game and fourth on the year.

Leonardo Calderon looked shaky in his first start as an Owl. He only lasted 2 2/3 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs (including two solo homers) before being relieved by Butcher.

Despite the rough fourth, Butcher regrouped and threw well the next three innings, holding Missoula scoreless. They would, however, get another run off the right-hander in the eighth, bringing their final tally to 8.

The Owlz drop to 16-11 with the loss; however, they still remain in sole possession of first place atop the Pioneer League South. Game two of the series is tomorrow evening at 7:05 P.M.
