
Mississippi Defeats Biloxi 2-0 in Independence Day Contest

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (34-49) defeated the Biloxi Shuckers (47-35) by a final score of 2-0 in Wednesday night's Independence Day contest before a crowd of 5,129 at Trustmark Park. Wednesday night's game was called after five complete innings due to rain. Despite the game being official, fans with tickets to Wednesday night's game will be allowed to exchange their tickets for tickets to any of the M-Braves remaining regular season home games. Fans can exchange their tickets at the Trustmark Park Box Office.
The M-Braves got off to a fast start as they gained an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Luis Valenzuela singled on a pop up to right field allowing Connor Lien to score from second base. The M-Braves picked up their second and final run of the contest in the bottom of the third inning when Travis Demeritte singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Tyler Neslony.
M-Braves starter, Ricardo Sanchez (1-2, 5.40) earned his first win with the M-Braves this season after tossing 5.0 scoreless innings. In 5.0 innings pitched, Sanchez scattered five hits, issued three walks and struck out three in route to a complete game shutout.
The M-Braves and the Shuckers will meet again at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday night at Trustmark Park in game two of the four game series. LHP Bruce Zimmermann (0-0, 1.42) who was recently promoted from Low-A Rome has been named the M-Braves Thursday night starter. Opposite of Zimmermann on the mound will be Biloxi RHP Luis Ortiz (1-3, 4.20.) Thursday night's game will feature the Thirsty Thursday promotion (canned domestic beer and 16 oz. fountain drinks will be $2 each.)
