MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, held on to win the series opener 3-1 over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in front of a crowd of 4,611 fans Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Alex Klonowski (5-1) tossed six scoreless innings and struck out six batters to earn his fifth win with Mobile (44-36 overall, 7-5 second half) this season. The BayBears have won eight of the nine games Klonowski has appeared in.

Mobile's three runs and four hits all came in the second inning. Jose Rojas opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly, and Michael Barash followed with a two-run homer. It was Barash's fourth of the season, coming in his first plate appearance since returning from Salt Lake.

Max Duval (2-8) did not allow another hit for the remainder of his seven-inning start. He retired 10 straight batters from the third inning through the end of the sixth.

Jacksonville (31-50, 3-10) rallied with a run on a pair of hits and a walk with two outs in the ninth inning. However, Zac Ryan induced a game-ending groundout with runners on second and third to earn his second save with Mobile. The Jumbo Shrimp went just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners stranded.

The BayBears continue the four-game home series against Jacksonville Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (6-4, 4.82 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Kolton Mahoney (3-3, 3.33 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv (subscription required, promo code: BAYBEARS) and heard on the BayBears Broadcast Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 6:15 p.m. CDT.
