BayBears Score Seven Unanswered to Win Second Straight

MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, erased an early three-run deficit and defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 7-3 Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Jesus Castillo (7-4) earned his third straight win in a quality start. He allowed three runs on four hits in the first inning before settling in. Castillo surrendered just one hit for the remainder of his six-inning start.

Jared Walsh hit a two-run homer to cap the scoring in a three-run first inning and tie the game 3-3. It was Walsh's eighth home run with Mobile (45-36 overall, 8-5 second half) and 21st of the season.

The BayBears surged ahead with a three-run third inning. Jack Kruger, Zach Houchins, and Brandon Sandoval all had RBI singles.

Mobile's pitching staff allowed just one hit, a fourth-inning double, after giving up three runs on four hits in the first. Meanwhile, Jacksonville's (31-51, 3-11) bullpen only surrendered two hits after Kolton Mahoney (3-4) allowed six runs on eight hits in a three-inning start.

The BayBears continue the four-game home series against Jacksonville Friday at 7:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Joe Gatto (2-3, 8.54 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Merandy Gonzalez (0-2, 5.70 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp.
