
M-Braves Shell Shuckers 4-1 in Thursday Night Contest

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (35-49) defeated the Biloxi Shuckers (47-36) by a final score of 4-1 in Thursday night's contest at Trustmark Park. M-Braves starting pitcher, Bruce Zimmermann provided his team with a quality start in his home debut at Trustmark Park. Zimmermann tossed 6.0 innings and allowed six hits, one run, which was earned, issued four walks and struck out four. After recording four strikeouts in Thursday night's game, Zimmermann has now amassed a total of 113 strikeouts over the course of the 2018 between Low-A Rome and Double-A Mississippi. Zimmermann's 113 strikeouts currently rank third in all of Minor League Baseball.
Zimmermann who starred on the mound for the M-Braves also produced at the plate as he gave the M-Braves a 1-0 after sending a ground ball single to right field, scoring Luis Marte from second base.
Mississippi added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, extending their lead 3-0 courtesy of back-to-back RBI singles from Daniel Lockhart and Alex Jackson.
Biloxi responded in the top of the sixth inning by scoring their first run of the game after Luis Aviles Jr. grounded out to M-Braves shortstop Luis Marte, which allowed Tyler Heineman to score from third base, making the score 3-1.
The M-Braves plated their fourth and final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning via a line drive RBI single from the bat of Connor Lien. Alejandro Salazar who was promoted from High-A Florida yesterday scored from third base on the single from Lien.
Mississippi and Biloxi will square off against one another again tomorrow night at Trustmark Park at 7:00 p.m. (CST) in game three of the four-game series. Mississippi's starting pitcher for Friday night's contest is still to be determined. Biloxi however has elected to start LHP Kodi Medeiros (5-4, 3.54.) Friday night's contest will feature post-game Friday Night Fireworks presented by WLBT 3 On Your Side which will be the second of three fireworks shows over the course of the four-game series against the Shuckers. The third and final fireworks show of the series will take place on Saturday, July 7 following the conclusion of the game.
