Mella Promoted, Santillan Joins Wahoos

Blue Wahoos RHP Keury Mella has earned a promotion to Triple-A Louisville, and in his place the Cincinnati Reds have transferred the organization's #4 prospect (MLB.com) RHP Tony Santillan from Advanced-A Daytona to Pensacola.

Mella was 7-3 with a 3.07 ERA in 16 starts with Pensacola this season. The Southern League All-Star had 87 strikeouts against just 31 walks. He had the seventh best ERA in the league and led the team in strikeouts and wins with 85 innings pitched, the second-most on the team. Over parts of two seasons with Pensacola, Mella posted an 11-13 record in 43 outings.

Mella came over from the Giants in July, 2015 with Adam Duvall in exchange for Mike Leake.

Santillan was a second round pick of the Reds in 2015 out of Arlington, Texas. Through 15 starts with Daytona this season he went 6-4 with a 2.70 ERA. He was third in the Florida State League in both ERA and innings pitched with 86.2. At various points in his career he has been rated as having the best fastball and best changeup in the Reds system by Baseball America. He has been an All-Star each of the last three years at the various levels he's pitched at.

Additionally, LHP Brennan Bernardino was activated from the disabled list and released by the Reds. He had pitched in 21 games this season with the Blue Wahoos and posted a 1-0 record with two saves and a 6.30 ERA.
