Zebulon, NC --- Ed Lucas hit two home runs in the final two innings to lift Mississippi past Carolina 7-2 at Five County Stadium on Friday night.

Lucas hit a tie-breaking, three-run homer in the eighth inning against Chris Mobley, then struck for a solo homer in the ninth off of Donnie Joseph to send the Braves past the Mudcats for the second straight night.

James Avery worked six innings, allowing four hits and one run and left the game with a 2-1 lead. The Braves put a pair of doubles together in the seventh against losing pitcher Justin Freeman (L, 2-4) to tie the game, then went ahead on the first of Lucas' two blasts after a leadoff double in the eighth and a walk from Freeman. Mobley entered to face Lucas, who drilled the second pitch over the left field wall.

Avery allowed a second inning homer to Ernesto Mejia, but Carolina quickly countered in the bottom half on a single by Miguel Rojas. Carolina took a 2-1 lead against starter Zeke Spruill in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Mark Fleury.

The season-ending series continues on Saturday night with Justin Lehr starting against Luis Avilan at 6:15 PM ET.
