Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - The San Antonio Missions blanked the Hooks Wednesday night at Whataburger Field 2-0. The Hooks still clinched a playoff birth with the loss as Midland beat Frisco earlier today mathematically eliminating both teams from the playoff race.
The shutout loss is only the second for the Hooks at Whataburger Field this season, the last one came on April 7th against the Missions. The Missions scored two unearned runs in the second inning that held up as the winning runs. Erick Monzon reached on a lead off error and scored on a Justin Ruchti homer to left.
The Hooks put together six hits but couldn't come up with a run. Jorge Cortes had a single in the game extending his on base streak to 36 games.
Hooks' starter Josh Miller tossed seven innings giving up the two unearned runs while giving up five hits and striking out six. Paul Estrada and Jailen Peguero each worked a perfect inning to close the game.
Missions' starter Ryan Feierabend tossed 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Feierabend gave up five hits and struck out a season high 10 batters. Mark Lowe retired the four batters he faced to earn his second save of the year.
The Hooks travel to Frisco for a four game series before the all-star break. Game one is set for Thursday night with a 7:05 first pitch. The Hooks send out RHP Juan Gutierrez (6-3, 3.30) as RHP Ryan Jensen (2-1, 5.94) gets the nod for the RoughRiders.
