Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - The Corpus Christi Hooks officially captured the first half pennant in the Texas League South this afternoon, becoming the first team to qualify for post-season play in the circuit this year. Club President and General Manager J.J. Gottsch announced that the first two games of the Southern Division playoffs will take place at Whataburger Field on Tuesday, September 5th and Wednesday, September 6th.

Corpus Christi's first foray into the playoffs was made possible this afternoon when Midland defeated Frisco 3-1 at the Dr Pepper Ballpark. Both of those teams are 34-32 with four games to play, while the Hooks are 38-26 with five games remaining in the half, including tonight's home stand finale against the San Antonio Missions.

The Hooks will play either the Southern Division's second-half winner, or, should the Hooks also win the second half, the team in the division with the best overall record at the end of the year. The divisional playoffs feature a best three-of-five format.

Hooks' season ticket holders will have the first option to purchase tickets for the playoffs. Additional details regarding playoff ticket sales will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.

Following tonight's game, there will be a first-half victory party at the new Brewster Street Ice House, located across from the right field entrance of Whataburger Field. Anyone with a ticket from tonight's game will get their first drink free!

The Hooks still have four first-half games remaining after tonight. Dave Clark's crew concludes the half with a four-game series that gets under way Thursday night in Frisco.
