Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Ashton Goudeau, made his first start for the Naturals in game two of the three-game series on Wednesday afternoon and twirled a quality start; but the offense of Northwest Arkansas could not crack the San Antonio pitching as the Missions took the second game of the series by a 2-1 final.
Goudeau (0-1, 2.25) retired the first nine hitters of his afternoon at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium before allowing a lead-off double to Auston Bousfield to begin his 4th inning. The double soon led the Missions first run of the game.
San Antonio added their second run on a solo home run by Mike Olt in the fifth inning; but that's all the Naturals' starter allowed. Goudeau retired the final six straight batters to end his day. The right-hander allow just those two runs on three hits with three strikeouts on the day.
The offense cracked the scoring column in the eighth inning against the late-inning relievers of the Missions. Jack Lopez drew a lead-off walk, followed two batters later by a base-on-balls to Terrance Gore. The tandem swiped second and third base on a double-steal setting up a prime offensive chance for the Naturals.
Orlando Calixte hit a slow tapper over the mound for a run-scoring, infield single to plate the Naturals (21-24) only run of the game. The single by Calixte accounted for one of the Naturals four hits on the day
Cam Gallagher cracked his fifth double of the season while Logan Moon and Zane Evans accounted for the other Northwest Arkansas hits.
Right-hander, Yender Caramo worked 2.0 scoreless innings of relief of Goudeau, throwing the seventh and eighth innings.
The series finale will be a rubber match as the Naturals send left-hander, Eric Skoglund (2-1, 4.26) to the hill looking for a series victory. The Missions counters with right-hander, Brandon Morrow (0-6, 7.31)..
Join the Voice of the Naturals, Benjamin Kelly, for a 6:45 p.m. Indigo Sky Casino Pregame Show leading up to the 7:05 first pitch on the flagship station of the Naturals, 92.1-FM, the Ticket.
