San Antonio Missions News Release

San Antonio rode the right arm of Kyle Lloyd to a much-needed 2-1 win over Northwest Arkansas Wednesday afternoon at Wolff Stadium.

The Missions entered Wednesday's contest having lost four straight overall and five in a row at home. The club also entered play with a league-worst 5.32 ERA. For one day, Lloyd helped San Antonio solve all of their problems on the hill.

In just his second start of the season, Lloyd (2-0) gave the Missions six shutout innings of three-hit ball. The 25-year-old hurler did not walk a batter and struck out two, throwing 49 of his 68 pitches for strikes.

Shortstop Jose Rondon snapped a scoreless tie in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to center off right-hander Ashton Goudeau. An inning later, Mike Olt pushed the lead to two when he took Goudeau (0-1) onto the berm in the left. It was Olt's fifth homer of the season.

The Naturals finally broke through in the eighth, slicing their deficit in half on Orlando Calixte's RBI infield single off reliever Eric Yardley, who had entered the game with runners on second and third.

After Yardley (first save) got San Antonio out of further trouble in the eighth, the side-armer came back out for the ninth and shut the door on Northwest Arkansas with a perfect frame.

San Antonio (14-31) wraps up its three-game series with Northwest Arkansas (21-24) Thursday on Cricket Dollar Night presented by News 4 San Antonio and Cox Media Group. Right-hander Bryce Morrow (0-6, 7.31) gets the ball for the Missions, while the Naturals counter with southpaw Eric Skoglund (2-1, 4.26). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
